Transportation in Pune

Being a major industrial centre in India, Pune is well connected to all the major cities in India by rail, road and air.

Pune Transportation Guide

By Air

Indian Airlines, Jet Airways, Indigo airlines, SpiceJet and GoAir provide regular flights to Pune from Delhi, four flights a week to Chennai and Bangalore, and two to three flights daily from Mumbai. Pune city is 12km's from the Pune Airport.

By Road

Mumbai is around 180km by road on National Highway #4 and 192km by rail from Pune. These two cities are extremely well connected due to the heavy traffic between the cities. It lies on the central railway line and there are many trains available, Deccan Queen and Indrayani Express being the most popular. There is an almost round-the-clock Asiad bus service, which is generally reliable and convenient. Starts from Dadar-East Asiad bus stand. Other options are Bombay-Pune Taxi service and Air.

By Rail

Chennai to Pune is 1088km on the South-Central Railway line. Banglore to Pune is approximately 800km on South-Central Raiway line and on Pune-Banglore National Highway #4. From Delhi to Pune it's approximately 1600km on Central Railway line.

Getting Around Pune

Metered auto-rickshaws and taxis are available to hire. Remember to pay the auto-rickshaws by the metre card. Municipal transport buses ply within the city and suburbs on scheduled routes.

Hiring Vehicles

One can hire a private taxi with a driver for sightseeing within pune for approximately Rs. 800 - 1,000 per day. Rates vary according to the type of car and number of kilometres travelled. You can also hire these cars for outstaion trips, however the charges may differ.
